Stunning Wedding At Velmore Hotel Estate

posted in: Home, Real Weddings | 14

I’ve had a miserable old weekend. It has been raining non-stop since Saturday morning and therefore I’ve been confined indoors. Arg! The UK weather has a mind of its own, you know. My adventures had to take a back seat because I was not in the mood to get soaked. Instead, my family and I decided to binge on home movies.

I won’t bore you with the details of the movies, most of them are old and we’ve been watching them forever. You know, the ones you get obsessed with and no matter how many times you watch them, you still come back to watch them over and over.

Enough about my movies, today’s wedding is a ray of sunshine. Perfectly planned and styled by Dare Difference Events. Thabiso and Thabo celebrated their wedding at Velmore Hotel Estate and the theme was Love, Laugh and Live. Thabiso opted to have two maids of honour instead of a handful of bridesmaids (sometimes it’s easier to do it this way, no dramas). Thabo also decided to do away with many groomsmen. He chose one best man, his son and his brother to help him get ready. Below Thabiso shares their journey. How We Met
At a Rotary Foundation meeting when we both went to see how we could volunteer to assist in their community projects. He was the only ‘young’ person I saw when I entered the conference room (The Rotary Foundation members are mainly retired folks in their 60’s) and there was an empty seat at his table. Great meeting which was followed by a coffee date….Thabiso & Thabo's Stunning Wedding At Velmore Hotel Estate

The Proposal
I am married to a traditionalist; there was no romantic kneeling down affair with an engagement ring on my finger before speaking to my parents. He went to speak to my mom to ask her for my hand in marriage. And on Father’s Day, he suggested we visit my late dad’s grave together with my mom so that he could introduce himself and also highlight his intentions. 4 months before then he had given me a Claddagh ring (Irish ring). My subsequent research gave me an understanding of the ring’s significance and his intentions.Thabiso & Thabo's Stunning Wedding At Velmore Hotel EstateThabiso & Thabo's Stunning Wedding At Velmore Hotel EstateThabiso & Thabo's Stunning Wedding At Velmore Hotel EstateThabiso & Thabo's Stunning Wedding At Velmore Hotel Estate

The Wedding Vendors
Didintle Motsuenyane from Dare Difference Events who is also my long-standing friend was our lifesaver; she outsourced most of the service providers for us. We sat down with her and highlighted the ideal day we want…a day filled with fun, with fewer formalities. Our role was only to find a photographer and a priest, the rest she dealt with. From the make-up artist to outsourcing tiffany chairs or candles for the ceremony. She made the whole planning a breeze.Thabiso & Thabo's Stunning Wedding At Velmore Hotel Estate

One Thing I’d Change
Absolutely nothing, even with what didn’t go well, it all formed part of our day.Thabiso & Thabo's Stunning Wedding At Velmore Hotel EstateThabiso & Thabo's Stunning Wedding At Velmore Hotel EstateThabiso & Thabo's Stunning Wedding At Velmore Hotel Estate

Culture
Our Lobola and ‘Go amogela makoti’ (welcoming of the bride) celebrations are where we emphasised and ensured that we follow the Basotho and Batswana customs. So on the 1st of May, the only culture incorporation we had was because our belief is deeply rooted in our God and our ancestors, we ensured that before the ceremony started we read out and acknowledge all our passed loved ones whom we knew were with us in Spirit.Thabiso & Thabo's Stunning Wedding At Velmore Hotel Estate

Words To Describe Our Wedding
Our wedding was inspired by the 3 L’s i.e. Love, Laugh and Live. A celebration of our Love and the essence of the Laughter that we share with each other every day. Our fun-loving approach to Life, which encompassed our special day. We value life and happiness and wanted each and every guest to feel that way.Thabiso & Thabo's Stunning Wedding At Velmore Hotel EstateThabiso & Thabo's Stunning Wedding At Velmore Hotel Estate

Best Part Of The Wedding
For our first dance, we invited all of the married couples onto the dance floor. And we asked the DJ to announce years of marriage in five-year increments and the couples to sit down when they heard theirs called. At the end of the song, the couple that had been married the longest remained and provided us with the words of wisdom for a long, happy marriage. The couple has been married for 43 years, yet when the DJ played their song ‘Elvis Presley, -She wears my ring, to show the world she’s mine’ the love and affection that they both share was an unbelievably captivating moment. This moment not only brought the lovely fun twist to the normal first dance but it was meaningful and ensured guest involvement in the reception.

The Wedding Style
Rustic Vintage with a touch of elegance – a heart-warming, sweet, diverse, creative and oh-so-much more style.Thabiso & Thabo's Stunning Wedding At Velmore Hotel EstateThabiso & Thabo's Stunning Wedding At Velmore Hotel Estate

The Dress
I only went to look for a dress in January when my wedding was only 5 months away….. I tried on 3 dresses and when I put on the 4th one…. I felt content, at peace and comfortable with how it hugged my body, and I just knew it was the one.thabiso-and-thabo12

Biggest Investment
During the planning process when doing the budget we both highlighted what was it that we are not compromising on. We both agreed on Photography and videography. We knew that photos are memories and they will last a lifetime. Type of candles, or flowers yes they are wonderful to have but in 5 yrs time, I am sure they won’t be the wedding memory we will be sharing with our kids.

The option to source our wines and pay corkage at the venue surprisingly worked out to be a bit on the reasonable side, which was great, because we could choose wines that we were certain our guests would appreciate.Thabiso & Thabo's Stunning Wedding At Velmore Hotel EstateThabiso & Thabo's Stunning Wedding At Velmore Hotel Estate

Advice
You have spent many months with various key people planning your day; you have entrusted key people to run the show on the day. Trust that those people will do a good job, sit back and enjoy the day as a couple. Remember that whatever you see going wrong, you see it because you know how events should be panning out but 90% of the guests don’t know. The events of the day go so quickly….we were fortunate that we had a strong support team which made sure that we get a few minutes, where we could just be the two of us and take everything in.Thabiso & Thabo's Stunning Wedding At Velmore Hotel Estate
