7 Things No One Tells You When Planning A Wedding

  1. Go To Pre-Marital Counseling
In all the years I’ve been sharing weddings on this blog, I’ve come across only a handful of couples who have said they went to pre-marital counseling before the wedding. This is a crucial step that shouldn’t be ignored. Dating is s different from cohabiting. Pre-Marital counseling will put things into perspective and help you find a clear mandate for your life together. Also, it might reveal you to yourself. So before you say I do, at least attend a few meetings.
  2. Everything Won’t Go As Planned
It doesn’t matter how well you plan, there will always be something that goes wrong. People have a perception that if you hired a wedding planner then all will go well but that’s far from the truth. Even the most experienced planners have one thing or another that goes completely the opposite way. The only difference is that planners can adapt, sort the problem out and the bride would never know if there were any glitches.
  3. Things You Stress About Won’t Matter
I always say, if at the end of the day, you and your partner are married, nothing else matter. Enjoy your wedding day to the fullest and stop stressing over details like flowers unaligned or bridesmaids shoes or insignificant details. Just have fun.
  4. You Won’t Cry
Ok, some of you might bald out just like in the movies however not every bride cries on their day. Some brides feel butterflies, some nerves, some are just overcome by emotions, there’s no right or wrong way to feel, just enjoy every bit of the day.
  5. Wedding Guests Are There For You
Every person who has honoured your wedding invite cares about you. They didn’t have to come but they did, therefore, please take time to say hello. I know it can be impossible if you have 200+ guests but do take time to thank them for coming.
  6. The Most Beautiful Moments Of The Wedding Will Be When You Least Expect Them
You’ll notice this when looking back at your wedding photos. Hopefully, you know the importance of capturing beautiful moments and hired a photographer who knows what they are doing. The best photographers are ones who take unscripted pictures without interrupting your day.
  7. Your Surname Will Change Automatically
In South Africa when you get married, your surname changes automatically. This shouldn’t be a problem to many brides however if you still want to use your maiden name or both surnames then you have to apply for it.
