I’ve been featuring some of the best grooms in the world. Ladies, Mzansi has romantic and highly clued up brothers who keep serving up the most beautiful and heartfelt proposals ever. And I’m excited I get to share their stories. Such is today’s groom, Katlego. When he realised his first plan to propose wasn’t going to work out, he quickly thought of the next best thing. Although the first proposal sounded wonderful, Bontle prefers the actual proposal because Kealeboga was well surprised and didn’t see it coming. Love IT!
From The Groom
We met through a mutual friend on a hot spring day, just a few days before her birthday. She was wearing a white shirt, and blue jean-shorts and at that time she had I fringe hairstyle. I asked her for her phone number but never called her, the next evening she sends me a text on Facebook (stalker) and that’s how it started. She dumped me twice in our 7 years, the 1st time I don’t know why (even today) and the 2nd time was because of school and distance.
But deep in my heart, I have always known that she is the one for me. So when she came back home from UJ for good, I held on to her and never let go. So far it has been a great ride with its ups and downs but mostly fun times.
I had planned this to the tee (ask Zabo, Blue, Mercy and Dimakatso). I had organised a hike and a picnic with friends at Hennops hiking trial. I was going to go down on one knee in front of all our friends and Mercy and Dimakatso were going to capture the moment with their top class camera at the top of the mountain with the full view of the hiking trail and the mountains….but that was not meant to be as on that Sunday morning Zabo my best friend was running so I decided to abort the mission that was to happen at the top of the mountain and reserve it for picnic time. Mercy and Dimakatso thought that I had changed my mind and got cold feet.
After much back and forth during picnic time trying to find the perfect moment. I decided to introduce everyone and got to the real reason for the picnic. I proposed to her as she was eating her meal ( don’t judge me) while she was on Instagram I got down on one knee and asked her to be my wife. She sat there in silence and disbelief and eventually nodded and cried. By then a small crowd had gathered. Amazing how her mood changed in an instant as she was exhausted…Afterwards, we went to our favourite ice cream shop to celebrate. #nailsweredone
The most reliable group of suppliers that we could have ever chosen and that was through Instagram and after I had face to face consultations with them. We needed suppliers that understood my vision and the look we were trying to go for. We had many meeting with different suppliers before we shortlisted and it’s okay to be picky because it’s a wedding day and it only comes once. Well ideally.
Most Memorable Moment

Katlego: Signing the marriage certificate.

Sepedi Wedding: A colourful celebration. Colors: Pink, Yellow, Blue and all the bright sePedi colours.
The Dress By Zodwa Bridal
My dresses were custom made by Zodwa Bridal. An amazing lady that is every girl’s dream seamstress. I went shopping for dresses hoping to get something off the rack but I found nothing that fitted my description. I wanted to look like an angel and I got exactly that. I didn’t cry when I had my last fitting. I think I got more nervous about the day but she made me look and feel sexy, adored, loved, beautiful actually everything I wanted to be on the day.
White wedding photography and videography and deco.
I wouldn’t call it a saving because we exceeded our budget but it was totally worth it.
Be patient with each and enjoy the wedding day. Be present ALL the time and know whatever is going happen will happen because you planned your best, the rest is up to God. Just remember the goal at the end of the day. A happy bride and groom make a beautiful wedding.
