The African wedding expo is making its return and this time, it is going to be better and bigger than the last one. So save the date and make your way to Orchards Executive Accommodation in Midrand on the 24th of September.
I can vouch for this expo because I exhibited with them earlier this year and it was a blast. I promise you, you won’t be disappointed. And at just R50 entrance fee, its a bargain.
The host Khutso of ckweddingsandevents has the same ethos as I do when it comes to traditional weddings. I asked Khutso why a traditional wedding expo and what inspired her to even think of putting one together.
Here’s what she said:
“Someone once said, we are black, why have a white wedding? In as much as this is a joke, I found it very intriguing. As Africans, we have a rich culture, a rich heritage. Our colors and patterns are unique, but we often don’t see the beauty of our very own heritage and shy away from it. So the inspiration in having the African Wedding Expo is in us as Africans knowing that we have a lot to offer the world, we can turn heads globally if we start showing off what we have in Africa particularly South Africa.
We also realized that regardless of where you stay, what your income bracket is or even your status quo, having your tradition ceremony is inevitable, lobola must still get paid, elders must still meet, a proper bridal sendoff is bound to happen. With the increasing economic strains, why not celebrate your African Wedding in style and postpone or even decide not to have the white wedding and save costs.
Gone are the days were African Weddings look like ‘shrines’, we are in a modern era. So our guests will be able to see the amazing wedding decor, fashion, trends, food and music that is African yet modern.”
